‘The Amazing Race’ Season 29 Predictions: Who Will Win It All?
The teams have officially been chosen and one has already been eliminated on the new season of “The Amazing Race,” but which pair of strangers seems most likely to win it all?
Twenty-two strangers paired off at the starting line in a schoolyard pick after completing a challenge to determine who would get first pick at a partner. The 11 teams then headed to Panama City, Panama, to finish completing their first leg, and while some teams seemed to get along very well straight off, others already seemed ready to self-destruct.
Spoiler Alert: The ending of the Season 29 Premiere is discussed below.
The teams all seemed to face some struggles when it came to getting directions in Panama, and some wound up getting lost for hours before continuing on their way. In addition, the detour tasks proved to be more difficult than some teams thought they would be. After arriving late, Kevin and Jennifer were unable to complete the Detour because it had gotten dark, and incurred a two-hour penalty at the mat. This led to Team #LongHairDontCare getting an early boot when the last team to arrive got to Phil before the penalty expired.
Now, with only ten teams left, which ones are likely to go far, and which ones seem most likely to get eliminated early on? Here are our predictions for how the rest of the season will play out:
The Next Team To Be Eliminated Will Be:
Jessie and Francesca, #SwoleSisters
Their early rough start at being the only team that was forced together (neither one was picked by other cast members) seemed to have completely been forgotten by the end of the episode. However, despite seeming like strong competitors, they still finished in ninth place overall, which doesn’t bode well for them in the future. Unless they get a miracle in the next leg, they will be the next to say their goodbyes.
Likely To Fall In 8th and 9th Place:
Liz and Mike, #TeamLizandMike; Vanck and Ashton #TeamVanckandAshton
These were the most oddball match-ups of the night when it came to teams, and it likely won’t take long for them to implode. Liz and Mike started off being dead last to hit the mat. If it hadn't been for Kevin and Jenn’s penalty, they would have been the first team eliminated.
Vanck and Ashton meanwhile, are extraordinarily different people, and Ashton wasn’t pleased when Vanck chose her. Their radical differences will get the best of them early on.
The Team Most Likely To Stay In The Middle Of The Pack:
Shamir and Sara, #TeamSandSExpress
They finished strong in the first leg, placing fifth overall, which is a good start, and there’s no reason to expect they won’t work well. However, Shamir only chose Sara because he wanted the “hot girl,” which isn’t necessarily the best strategy, even if she is a strong competitor. It seems likely they’ll stay safely in the middle of the pack until the weakest teams are all eliminated.
The Teams Who Will Just Miss The Final Three:
Seth and Olive #TeamAmerica,; Becca and Floyd #TeamFun; Tara and Joey #TeamMomandDad
Though Seth and Olive finished first in the first leg, that doesn’t always bode well for a team’s chances later on in the season. Out of 28 seasons, only seven have seen a team which finished first on leg one go on to win the $1 million at the end. While there are worse odds, a 25 percent prior record of that happening isn’t great, so they’ll likely be eliminated before the final three.
For Becca and Floyd, who finished second, their focus on mainly having fun will eventually do them in. While it is refreshing to see people who aren’t focused on the competition as much, eventually, they’ll need to change that thought process.
As for Tara and Joey, they’re stronger than they may look so they’ll likely go much further than other teams give them credit for as the oldest competitors this season. However, they will likely just fall short of the final three because of the other teams that are just that much stronger.
The Final Three Will Be:
Matt and Redmond #TheBoys; London and Logan #TeamLoLo; Brooke and Scott #TeamBrookeandScott
Thus far, Matt and Redmond have the best chances at winning the entire race because they’re both strong, and they are the only team who finished the “Scoot” Detour on their second try, which means they have the competitive drive between them to go far. Right now, the only reason they don’t seem poised to take home the million is that Male/Female matchups have always tended to win more often than others.
London and Logan currently seem like underdogs because of their 8th place finish in leg 1, but there’s a good chance they could still make the final three because they already seem to have great chemistry and can work well together. Plus, it’s clear they’re a perfect yin and yang, with London easily able to handle any tasks requiring a creative mind as an artist, while Logan has physical strength for tasks that require muscles, plus a background in sales, meaning any tasks which require teams to try and sell items will be perfectly suited for him. This combination of skills will easily send them to the final three.
Though Brooke and Scott finished fourth in the first leg and seem like they’re going to clash all season long, that will work in their favor. Their clashes come from their dueling Type A personalities that both possess. The last time two Type A personalities clashed like that was in season 26, when Hayley and Blair never agreed on anything all season long. In the end, they still made it to the final three. It seems like the same thing will happen again for Brooke and Scott.
“The Amazing Race” airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
