Amber Heard on Sunday took to Instagram to tease her return as Mera in "Aquaman 2" with a photo from the sets amid an ongoing libel battle with Johnny Depp.
The 34-year-old actress has put several rumors to rest as she posted a picture in which she is seen reading a novel by Iain M. Banks. Rumors were making rounds that Heard has been fired from the "Aquaman 2" movie after evidence against the actress was presented to the court during her legal battle with Depp. Moreover, there was an online petition to remove the actress from "Aquaman 2," which received more than 1,836,935 signatures.
However, it seems Heard will continue to play the character of Mera, Princess of Xebel, as she captioned, "Before Aquaman took the last pages out of this book. #gettingakindleforaquaman2 @prideofgypsies @aquamanmovie."
The actress kept her comment section turned off. The highly anticipated sequel is slated to release on Dec. 16, 2022. Released in 2018, "Aquaman" earned $1 billion at the box office and grabbed fans' attention for being a light-hearted superhero movie.
Before "Aquaman" and "Wonder Woman" release, the DC Extended Universe was known for creating dark-themed superhero movies. "Game of Thrones" fame Jason Momoa became a star in the DC Extended Universe following his charismatic performance in "Aquaman."
Momoa debuted in "Justice League" as Arthur Curry and reprised his character in "Aquaman" to earn the title of King of Atlantis in the first installment.
While Heard returned to the DC Extended Universe, Depp lost his role in the "Fantastic Beasts 3" movie as Grindelwald.
The legal battle between Heard and her ex-husband Depp has been highly popularized for a couple of years now. The couple first met on the sets of "The Rum Diary" in 2009 and started dating in 2012. The actress flaunted her engagement ring in 2014 and got married in 2015.
Heard filed for divorce in 2016 and accused Depp of physical abuse. The estranged couple finally got divorced in 2017. However, the battle between the duo continues as Depp has filed a $50 million defamation suit against the actress.
Depp will be next seen in "Sherlock Holmes 3," starring Robert Downey Jr., Rachel McAdams and Jude Law.
