‘American Horror Story’ Season 3 Spoilers: Stevie Nicks Joins ‘Coven’ Cast … As A Witch?
Fantastic news for “American Horror Story” fans! Singing bombshell Stevie Nicks will be joining season 3, “Coven.”
“American Horror Story” co-creator Ryan Murphy broke the news of Nicks’ casting on Tuesday, Nov. 12, when he tweeted the following message:
Although Stevie Nicks has not appeared on screen yet, she’s been a driving force in “Coven” thanks to Lily Rabe’s character, Misty Day.
For those unfamiliar, Misty Day is a young witch who has the power of resurgence. An outcast due to her powers, Misty was burned at the stake during the season 3 premiere of “American Horror Story.” However thanks to her magic she was able to survive.
Viewers met Misty Day when she came to the aid of Zoe and Franken-Kyle. After taking the duo back to her swamp cabin to help tend to Franken-Kyle, she revealed that she is OBSESSED with Stevie Nicks. With the song “Rhiannon” playing in the cabin, Misty tells Zoe about her hero, Stevie Nicks. But Zoe’s unfamiliar with the singer, initially believing that Nicks is from “American Idol.”
“Stevie Nicks. The White Witch,” Misty informs Zoe. “The only witch before you I’ve ever known.”
A confused Zoe asks Misty if Nicks is an actual witch, leading Misty to reply, “Listen to the lyrics … this song was her anthem.”
Stevie Nicks is of course not a real witch, but she has been occasionally labeled one by some due to her song lyrics and mainly black wardrobe. Throughout the years the singer struggled with those claims and overzealous Wiccan fans.
While the singer “doesn’t like the darkness” of the "witch" label, she did approve of Murphy using her music in the FX witch-based mini-series.
“She was very resistant because from the beginning of her career people in the Wiccan community had given her a hard time thinking she was a witch, and she got a lot of scary fan letters,” Ryan Murphy told Entertainment Weekly of Nicks’ involvement. “She didn’t like the darkness of that, and I explained to her the part and she’s like, ‘Aw f**k it, let’s just do it. OK, I love it.’”
Details surrounding Stevie Nicks’ appearance on “American Horror Story: Coven” are currently unclear. When, how long, or whether she will be playing herself or another character have not been revealed. But one thing for certain is that the cast is excited about the addition.
