Angelina Jolie flew to Yemen to help the people there who also need assistance amid Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Most are concentrating their attention on Ukraine. However, the "Maleficent" star opted to visit Yemen because the refugees there also need help. She arrived in the city of Aden, where she will work with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) to provide aid to the refugees, People reported.
The country's humanitarian crisis has been going on for seven years amid the conflict between the internationally recognized government backed by a Saudi-led military coalition and Houthi rebels supported by Iran. The Yemen Crisis is considered one of the worst in the world due to widespread hunger, disease and civilian attacks, according to Council on Foreign Relations.
The "Eternals" star shared snaps of the situation in Yemen on Instagram Sunday. The post included a clip that showed an aerial view of the country with the text, "Yemen A Forgotten Conflict."
According to Jolie's post, one civilian is killed or injured every hour in Yemen in 2022, while over two million kids are out of school. In the last slide, Jolie reminded the people to help everyone in need and not be selective.
"This week a million people were forced to flee the horrific war in Ukraine. If we learned anything from this shocking situation, it is that we cannot be selective about who deserves support and whose rights we defend," the message read. "Everyone deserves the same compassion. The lives of civilian victims of conflict everywhere are of equal value. After seven years of war, the people of Yemen also. need protection, support, and above all, peace."
Jolie accompanied her post with a lengthy caption announcing that she was showing her support for the people of Yemen. She added that she would continue communicating from the grounds in the coming days.
Jolie noted that the Yemen crisis is "one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world." The country's economy was devastated by war, and over 20 million locals depend on humanitarian assistance for survival.
