“Maleficent” star Angelina Jolie recently shared why she agreed to be the newest face of Mon Guerlain perfume.

While speaking with Marie Claire, the 41-year-old actress revealed that she signed on for the beauty campaign to pay tribute to her mom, Marcheline Bertrand. “It was a brand my mother loved, so I knew it from my childhood. It spoke to her, as it does to me, of beauty, of history, and quality; one of the oldest perfume houses in the world, from France, a country I love and feel connected to,” she said.

According to People, Bertrand passed away in 2007 at age of 56 after battling cancer for more than seven years. She raised Jolie with the help of her brother, Haven, after Bertrand divorced the actress’ father, Jon Voight.

Meanwhile, the “Ocean’s Eleven” actress also talked about her late mother’s style and said that Bertrand was a very simple woman. “She was a very natural woman who never spoiled herself, never wore makeup and wore modest jewelry, but she always had a few special items for when she wanted to feel like a lady. One of those – and I remember it because it seemed so elegant – was her Guerlain powder. I think all women have those few special things that make them feel feminine,” Jolie recounted.

In other news, Jolie, who had a very close relationship with her mom, previously revealed to Marie Claire how she tries to keep Bertrand’s memory alive. The actress said that she feels she’s able to honor her mom whenever she looks at her six children. “I can feel her influence over me then. I see that my way of raising them resembles the way she raised my brother and I. It’s more apparent with my daughters Shiloh and Vivienne,” she said during the 2014 interview.
