Angelina Jolie Talks About Ex Brad Pitt, Jon Voight On THR Podcast
Angelina Jolie got candid about her personal life.
The director of "First They Killed My Father" sat down for an interview on The Hollywood Reporter's podcast Awards Chatter. During the interview, Jolie talked about her relationship with her dad Jon Voight and how it was working with ex Brad Pitt.
Everyone who has been following the "Maleficent" star's career is aware that she and her father have been estranged for years. The father and daughter just reconciled in 2011. According to Jolie, they found a new relationship through her kids. She added that they communicate through art and do not really talk about politics, E! News reported.
Back in August, Jolie and Voight were seen laughing and chatting as they walked Vivienne, 9, to her Color Me Mine class in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood. The "Salt" star also added that her father has been supportive of her following her split from the "War Machine" actor. "He's been very good at understanding they needed their grandfather at this time," Jolie said in an interview with Vanity Fair.
During the podcast, Jolie confessed that she's closer to her mom than her dad. She also explained why she did not use her father's last name, Voight.
"I didn't feel that close to my father. I felt more of my mother's daughter when I was a child. So that was one part of it," Jolie said. "The second part of it was I did want to have my own identity and didn't want to walk into a room as Jon's daughter. I wanted to see if I could get the job on my own, and not be hired for a name."
Meanwhile, after her separation from Pitt, Jolie is still open to working with her estranged husband again. Jolie and Pitt worked together in the films "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" and "By the Sea."
"We had met working together and we worked together well," Jolie said about sharing the screen with the "Allied" actor. "I wanted us to do some serious work together...I thought it would be a good way for us to communicate."
