Angelina Jolie Throws Shade At Dad Jon Voight In New Op-Ed Piece About Donald Trump?
Angelina Jolie and her dad, Jon Voight, don’t have the same opinion when it comes to Donald Trump’s decision to ban refugees from entering the United States.
According to Deadline, Voight previously called Trump the answer to all of the country’s problems, but his daughter thinks otherwise. In the op-ed piece she penned for the New York Times, the “Maleficent” actress used her six children as an example why refugees should be allowed entry into the country.
“As the mother of six children, who were all born in foreign lands and are proud American citizens, I very much want our country to be safe for them, and all our nation’s children. But I also want to know that refugee children who qualify for asylum will always have a chance to plead their case to a compassionate America,” she wrote.
Jolie added that refugees do not necessarily equate to terrorists. “Refugees are men, women and children caught in the fury of war, or the cross hairs of persecution. Far from being terrorists, they are often the victims of terrorism themselves,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, Jolie is still in the middle of her ongoing divorce from Brad Pitt. The actress filed her court documents in September 2016. The estranged couple is also fighting for the custody of their six children. Jolie wants sole custody of the kids, while Pitt is requesting for joint custody.
Despite the tediousness of her divorce, Jolie recently released a teaser for her upcoming film on Netflix, “First They Killed My Father.” The movie is based on the autobiography of Cambodian human rights activist Luong Ung, who is one of those who were affected by the Khmer Rouge communist party in the 1970s.
“First They Killed My Father” is slated to hit theaters in Siem Reap on Feb. 18. Netflix will release it sometime in 2018.
