‘Animal Kingdom’ Season 2 Finale Spoilers: Episode 13 Synopsis; Watch ‘Betrayal’ Promo
After several episodes of disloyalty and bad ideas, “Animal Kingdom” Season 2 is finally coming to an end, and the Cody family may never be the same. The promo teases that this will be the “episode that changes everything” and considering the way the Codys handle their problems, this will definitely be something viewers won’t want to miss.
“When Smurf (Ellen Barkin) realizes she may be in jail a lot longer than expected, she pits her sons against one another, the consequences be damned,” the synopsis for episode 13, “Betrayal” teases.
In the TNT promo, Smurf can be seen telling J (Finn Cole) that Baz (Scott Speedman) is trying to take advantage of him and that he should not let him.
In the previous episode, Baz was furious when he found out that Smurf switched power of attorney to J over him. In the final moments of “You Will be Gutted,” Baz told J that they would go to the lawyer’s office to correct things but from the looks of the promo, it seems like J isn’t going to go willingly.
In a sneak peek clip of “Betrayal,” Baz can be seen telling the family that Smurf gave the teen power of attorney because she doesn’t trust them. However, J chimes in that it is Baz who Smurf doesn’t trust.
J then hints that Baz doesn’t have the family’s best interests at heart, which prompts Craig (Ben Robson) to ask Baz why he didn’t tell them that he planned to put their mother in prison. Baz explains that he didn’t think they would be strong enough to go through with it.
J continues to imply that Baz can’t be trusted, which causes Baz to attack him. Deran (Jake Weary) and Craig can then be seen jumping in the middle to stop the fight, but Pope (Shawn Hatosy) eventually ends things when he sees Lena (Aamya Deva Keroles) enter the room.
Smurf previously told Craig and Deran that they have to protect J because if Baz was willing to put her in jail, there is no telling what he would do to him.
Later on in the “Animal Kingdom” Season 2, episode 13 promo, Pope (Shawn Hatosy) can be seen walking down the alleyway with a gun, although it is unclear where he is headed. Smurf can also be heard telling someone “he’s coming for you.”
Is Pope on his way to kill someone? In the promo, a gun can be heard going off, which brings up the question whether or not someone is going to die in the Season 2 finale.
“Animal Kingdom” is based on the 2010 Australian film by David Michôd. In the movie, Baz is killed by a police officer, which prompts Craig and Pope to seek revenge. Later on in the film, Craig is also gunned down by the police and J kills Pope.
The show has not followed the movie exactly but it has been very close to mimicking the storyline in Season 1, which put J in a position to turn his family in to the authorities and he instead chose to keep them safe.
With Smurf slowly turning everyone against Baz, it seems like he will be the one most likely to get injured or killed should things boil down to that.
“Animal Kingdom” Season 2, episode 13 airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. EDT on TNT.
