Ann Rutherford, Actress Best Known For 'Gone With The Wind,' Dies At 94

Ann Rutherford, best-known for her role as Scarlett O'Hara's sister Carreen in the 1939 classic Gone With the Wind, has died. She was 94.

The Gone With the Wind, actress died Monday evening as a result of heart problems and declining health, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Rutherford attracted much attention in 1937 in her first notable role as Andy Hardy's girlfriend, Polly Benedict, in You're Only Young Once.

The actress made a total of 12 appearances as Polly in the long-running Andy Hardy film series before making her mark as Carreen in 1939's Gone With The Wind.

While she retired from films in 1950, she returned in 1976 to appear in They Only Kill Their Masters. Ironically, the film was shot on the old Andy Hardy set.

Rutherford was married twice. On Christmas Eve 1942, she married David May, and the couple had a girl, Gloria May, in 1943, but they divorced in 1953.

In that same year, she married William Dozier, who later produced the Batman TV series (1966-68). Dozier died in 1991.

Rutherford was one of the last surviving cast members of Gone With the Wind.
