Anna Kendrick has revealed what she learned from a previous relationship that ended due to her ex-boyfriend's alleged infidelity.
The "Pitch Perfect" star, 37, opened up about discovering that her ex was allegedly cheating on her with another woman during her chat with Dax Shepard on Monday's episode of his "Armchair Expert" podcast.
"[I] was exposed to [a] year-long text exchange and went, 'Oh, I was right about everything. Oh, OK.' It was actually way worse than I even thought," Kendrick said, Us Weekly reported.
Kendrick, who did not name the ex-boyfriend, said she had previously confronted him about an alleged affair, but he vehemently denied it.
She claimed her then-beau "screamed" at her, telling her, "It was a passing crush, you're so insecure, I never saw a relationship with this girl, I even told my best friend I never saw a relationship with this girl."
The actress said she decided to confront her then-boyfriend again after she found the alleged text messages, in which he had apparently told a mystery woman that he wanted to "blow up" his life for her after one week of "f—king you." But he once more denied the allegation and told Kendrick he didn't know what she was talking about.
At that point, Kendrick decided to contact the woman her ex had been messaging and inform her that she had discovered their relationship.
"I ended up emailing this young woman," Kendrick said. "And saying, 'I just think it's fair that you know that I know. I don't put this at your doorstep. You made a mistake, but you're 25. We've all done stupid s—t. I very much lay this at his doorstep.'"
Kendrick told the woman that she was "more than willing" to talk if she wanted to do so.
"To her eternal credit, she was like, 'Yes, can I call you?' We talked on the phone for about an hour and she was just like, 'I'm so embarrassed and I'm so sorry. This was a mistake,'" the actress said without naming the woman.
Kendrick said it was "hard to forgive" herself for not immediately kicking her ex out of the house after discovering the messages. But the call helped the "Up in the Air" star get closure from that relationship.
"But I think that I would've always wondered, 'Was that fair?' ... 'Was I being unreasonable?' had I not gotten to this capital T truth. Even though I had seen it in black and white, it was infinitely more valuable to me and it landed finally in my body hearing [the woman confirm] it," she explained.
After her conversation with the woman, Kendrick said her "whole body just went, 'You can grieve. You're not crazy. You're safe. You can grieve. You can eat nachos. You can have a glass of wine.'"
She also said the confirmation of the affair "stopped that total panicked state that I'd kind of been in for a year."
Kendrick did not reveal her allegedly unfaithful ex's identity, but she was previously linked to Edgar Wright, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Richardson and Bill Hader.
When Kendrick's relationship with Hader made headlines in January 2022, reports said they had been together for over a year already at the time.
"Bill and Anna are in love and very happy in their relationship," an unnamed source told Entertainment Tonight in March 2022. However, the insider said that they didn't want to rush to get engaged.
But on June 28, 2022, after nearly two years together, an unnamed source close to the former couple confirmed to ET that they had called it quits.
