He was diagnosed with the condition in 2001 and seven years later, he decided to not let it get the best of him by living as healthy of a lifestyle as he could. He’s also been partnering with the American Diabetes Association since 2010 to help get the word out about the disease.
2. He married his college sweetheart.
While attending Howard University on an arts scholarship, Anderson met his now-wife Alvina Anderson. The two married in 1995 and have two children, Kyra and Nathan. The latter starred on the 2015 Netflix series “Riche Rich” as a kid named Tahj, and he also had a guest role on his father’s ABC series that same year.

Not only has Anderson hosted the TV show “Golf in America,” but he regularly enjoys playing the sport.
“I started when my father-in-law took me to the driving range maybe 14 years ago,” he told Golf Digest of how his love of it began. “He’s a left-handed golfer, who had one right-handed club in his bag, and he made me swing it, and I’ve been addicted ever since.”
5. His breakout role was on a teen NBC series.
In 1996, Anderson joined the sitcom “Hang Time” in its second season and he stayed on the show through Season 3. He starred in almost 40 episodes as Teddy Brodis, the son of a professional basketball player.
