Apple Device Battery Problems May Stem From Product Overconfidence
After some tests, many Apple devices were tested to see if their specs matches to what the company was advertising them for. However, it turns out that the iPhones fell short of their promised battery life. Here’s what we know about Apple’s device problems.
According to a consumer advocacy group “Which?” through a BusinessInsider report, the nine iPhones they tested failed to meet the standards that Apple advertised about its battery life. As advertised, the iPhone XR is said to last up to 25 hours of talk time. However, the advocacy group only found that the device only lasts up to 16 hours and 32 minutes.
The group also notes that Apple said they’ve tested these devices for quality. However, Apple didn’t share their procedures to test it which somehow makes the company’s “test” statements baseless until the methods are revealed. Apple has since replied about their methods on testing their products. Lastly, Which? also said that they’ve used new batteries and iPhone devices for tests they’ve ran
While Apple has answered back on this debacle, the company still has to deal with the battery life problem on their other devices. The first generation of AirPods has a major problem with its battery life when the device has already been used for some time.
The device starts to fail at varying degrees as seen among owners in the Apple Reddit. AirPods users note that the degradation can get worse as 30 minutes of battery life even though it’s just been fully charged after the AirPods has lasted for a year.
After this iteration, Apple is currently working on the next generation AirPods with improved battery life not only for the pods itself but also for its charging case. It's expected to be released later this 2019. Through time, device degradation is expected but we’ve yet to see if Apple can improve their device’s durability soon.
So far, the company is currently interested in pushing out new services and improving existing ones as of 2019. Their previous announcements mostly talked about new subscription services while leaving few information about their new releases.
