Are Mama June's Kids Giving Up On Her? New Teaser Reveals Details
June Shannon, better known as Mama June, is practicing social distancing from her daughters and it has nothing to do with the coronavirus. In a sneak peek of the premiere of WE tv’s "Mama June: Family Crisis," her daughters Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon, 20, and Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, 14, reveal their frustrations with their distant mom.
“It’s gotten so low at this point, like, what more is there to do?” Pumpkin questions in the preview from People. “What more can we physically do for her? I mean, we tried to send her to rehab. The network even gave her the opportunity that anybody in their right [expletive] mind would take. She checked out within less than 24 hours.”
Mama June and her boyfriend, Eugene “Geno” Edward Doak, were both arrested on drug possession charges in March 2019, as noted by the outlet. Two days prior, her daughters had convinced her to check into a treatment facility, but she left the facility with Geno after just 12 hours.
“As soon as Geno got Mama from the treatment center, I knew it was over from there,” Pumpkin said in May 2019 on the “Mama June: From Not to Hot” season finale. “Mama just got charged with a possession of crack cocaine, which is a felony.”
June’s arrest resulted in Pumpkin becoming Honey Boo Boo’s legal guardian. Now, the girls say their mother will barely talk to them.
“She doesn’t even answer our phone calls. It goes to voicemail,” Pumpkin says in the sneak-peek clip. “Geno’s phone goes to voicemail.”
“Or they’ll say all their phones are dead and they were sleeping,” Honey Boo Boo adds.
According to June’s sister, Doe-Doe, the 40-year-old and Geno currently reside in Alabama where they spend much of their time gambling. In response to this, Pumpkin asks, “How much more money are they gonna blow through before she is completely broke?”
"Mama June: Family Crisis" premieres on WE tv Friday at 9 p.m. EDT.
