An Arizona mother who has been charged with murdering her two kids claimed in court Monday that she has no memory of the horrific crime.
Yui Inoue, 40, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder for allegedly killing her 7-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter Saturday.
During an interview with Tempe police, Inoue said that she woke up with blood on her hands and her kids dead nearby. “I didn’t kill anybody,” Inoue said in court Monday with the help of a translator.
Inoue claims that she went to bed with her kids and woke up at around 4:30 a.m. to find her two children dead near the doorway of her bedroom, according to a police statement, reported New York Post.
Inoue’s husband told the police that he had left the house at around 12:30 a.m. after he reportedly had an argument with her. He said that Inoue had threatened to stab him after the argument over her wanting more money for her upcoming move to Japan, news outlet AZ Central reported.
After the alleged murder, Inoue reportedly drove to a police station at around 7 a.m. and told an officer that she was “hearing voices telling her to kill her kids.” The deputies then responded to the apartment and saw the children dead with “obvious signs of physical trauma.”
The responding officers found the blood-soaked bodies of the two children partially covered in blankets and boxes in the bedroom of the apartment. The bodies had injuries including self-defense wounds, cuts from a sharp object and some amputations indicating a violent attack, according to the police statement.
Further investigation revealed that the police had previously responded to the apartment earlier that day on complaints of a domestic dispute between the husband and the wife. The police did not make any arrests during that time as the couple had separated and the children were found safe in beds.
Inoue had bloodstains on her heel, incision on her fingers and dark bruises on her hands and knees, according to the court documents.
The police also found a bag from her car that had bloody clothes and a meat cleaver that is believed to be used for the attack.
The couple had filed for divorce in April, but were still sharing the house while living in separate rooms, police said on Sunday.
Inoue is scheduled to appear in court on May 21 and was given a $2 million bond.
