Ashley Graham Hopes To See Plus-Size Miss Universe In The Future
Ashley Graham wants the upcoming Miss Universe pageants to have more diversity.
Graham will be returning as backstage host for the Miss Universe 2017 this weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. When asked about her return to the popular beauty pageant competition, the model explained that she wants to show diversity. She wants the audience to know that women come in all sizes and shape.
"I think that it's really important that we continue to show diversity of all sizes, ethnicities, backgrounds and religion," Graham explained to Fox News. "So for me, I'm here to show diversity of size! Because not yet have we had a curvy girl in Miss Universe or even in the Miss USA pageant."
When asked about the possibility of having a large size woman win the crown, Graham gave a positive response. "Yes! I really do think so," Graham said. " I think we're on the way. If you can see a curvy girl on the cover of Sports Illustrated or Vogue, then we can definitely see a curvy girl as Miss Universe."
Almost 100 women from different nations will be competing to be crowned as the next Miss Universe on Sunday. The event will be hosted by Steve Harvey and Graham. Fergie and Rachel Platten are among the performers. Meanwhile, Jay Manuel, Ross Matthews and former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach are among the panel of judges, E! News reported.
In related news, Graham is happily married to Justin Ervin. In September, the supermodel celebrated her married life on Instagram. Graham shared a photo of her cuddling and kissing Ervin in the pool. "No caption necessary #marriedlife," she wrote in the caption.
Graham who admitted to having a terrible dating history said that she had an innocent romance with her husband. In fact, they practice abstinence before their wedding and she was very proud of it.
"My romance with Justin was innocent and sweet. He cooked for me. We went rollerblading and biking; we did karaoke, went to the movies, took an improve class together," Graham said. "My husband and I waited; call me crazy, but it worked. Our sex is amazing!"
Graham confessed that Ervin was not her type. It was not a love at first sight case. But she instantly found him smart and funny. Now, she's very happy about their relationship and marriage.
"We have a solid foundation, we're best friends and we have incredible chemistry. I'm so happy to know I can build something with somebody," the "America's Next Top Model" judge added.
