Atlanta Police Searching For Man Who Stabbed His Child's Mother, Ran Away With The Toddler

Deputies in Atlanta are actively searching for a man who allegedly stabbed his child's mother Sunday and ran away with the toddler.

The stabbing took place at a home on Epworth Street in southwest Atlanta, reported The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, citing police. It left the child's mother, whose identity has not been released to the public, seriously injured.

Police identified Tremayne Hines, 24, as the main suspect in the stabbing. Cops said Hines may be wearing a brown suit jacket and a bucket-style hat with a flower design on it. Deputies said Hines had fled the scene on foot.

Police said Hines "doesn't have a vehicle." He may be using the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) to get around the city, WSB-TV said in a report.

Charges are pending against the suspect.

A domestic dispute led to the stabbing, according to police. An Amber alert was initially issued for the child after her father made off with her.

The 2-year-old child, identified as Tamar Massey, was dropped off at DeKalb County Jail by one of her family members later that day, AP News reported, citing the Atlanta Police Department.

Massey was unharmed when she was turned over to the police, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Authorities are advising people to call 911 immediately when they see the suspect.

Last month, a Louisiana man who fatally shot his ex-girlfriend and fled the scene with his 4-month-old baby was killed during a police chase. Eric Derell Smith, 30, shot his former girlfriend, Christin Parker, 32, and her nephew Brandon Parker, 26, at a residence on Richmond Street before fleeing the scene with the toddler. A gun battle erupted between Smith and the deputies who pursued him down the highway. Smith was fatally shot during the gunfight and the baby, who was with Smith during the chase, suffered a gunshot as well. The child was found in stable condition and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
