Bachelorette Breakup Shocker (Not): Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez Split
Ali Fedotowsky, Bachelorette number six, has broken off her engagement to Roberto Martinez, who proposed to Ali during the Bachelorette season six finale in Tahiti that aired in Aug. 2010.
Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez have ended their relationship, a rep told People magazine. As they go through this difficult time, we ask that you respect the couple's privacy.
Fedotowsky had previously been a contestant on The Bachelor, and famously left the show in order to keep her job at Facebook, much to Bachelor Jake Pavelka's disappointment.
Fedotowsky chose the sexy State Farm insurance agent in a white-knuckle finale, when no one -- Ali herself -- seemed sure if she would choose Martinez or fellow Masschusetts native, family guy and landscaper Chris Lambton.
Fedotowsky also appeared to have fallen for a third finalist, Frank Neuschaefer, who walked away in the second-to-last episode due to unresolved feelings her his ex-girlfriend back home. Neuschaefer, an aspiring screenwriter, has since been villainized on suspicion he never took Ali seriously in the first place, and only went on the show to raise his public profile. (He wouldn't be the first).
While Ali and Roberto certainly made a cute couple, there were earlier hints of trouble in paradise. The couple was initially slated to marry in the summer of 2011, but postponed the wedding, citing logistical issues. In October, amidst speculation that couple was headed for splitsville, Ali told People magazine she and Roberto did not feel the need to walk down the aisle right now.
We didn't meet in the most traditional way, Fedotowsky said. We had a very short courtship and we only knew each other nine weeks before we got engaged.
We are still figuring out our lives as individuals, she added, but denied the relationship was on the rocks.
Martinez and Fedotowsky are still following each other on Twitter, and neither has tweeted a comment about the breakup.
