A&E is bringing a new (and expectantly frightening) series to life in 2013 - Bates Motel. The network has ordered a 10-episode series for the new show, which is being described as a prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 classic film Psycho.

According to MSNBC, Bates Motel will explore the life of Norman Bates, his relationship with his mother, Norma, and offer a look at the back story that helped forge the infamous serial killer.

The upcoming series already has some pretty serious names attached to it. Bates Motel will be produced by the former show runner of Lost, Carlton Cuse, and the writer and producer of Parenthood and Friday Night Lights, Kerry Ehrin. Casting for the project is currently taking place.

A&E must have high hopes for the new show, as it is pretty unusual for a new show to skip the pilot and go straight to series with 10 ordered episodes.

This isn't the only recent reboot of Hitchcock's Psycho. Fox Searchlight has their hands on Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, a drama about what happened behind the scenes during the filming in 1960. Originally a book by Stephen Rebello, the Hollywood Reporter revealed that the film will star Scarlett Johannson as actress Janet Leigh, Helen Mirren as Alma Reville, and Anthony Hopkins as Alfred Hitchcock.
