A fan may have already solved the coded message of The Riddler in the first "The Batman" trailer. The Matt Reeves' directed film dominated most of the post-DC FanDome discussions ranging from Pattinson's growl to the Zodiac-style feel that lingers all through the trailer. But, many fans were more intrigued by The Riddler's taunting of the Black Knight, which may have already been deciphered by a fan.

In a Twitter thread, "The Batman" fan Andrew Lane tried to uncover the mystery of The Riddler's message and explained his methods to curious fans. In replies, Lane explained that he analyzed the various symbols to determine recurring ones. He then used the process of elimination by removing the word Batman first and replaced the symbols with commonly used letters.

Aside from Lane, Game designer Mike Selinker also cracked The Riddler's code and shared the process he took to decipher it. Selinker admitted that he could just solve the coded message like a riddle. However, he said that it is a good opportunity to show how to solve a puzzle using brute force.

The message that fans were talking about is found in the early part of "The Batman" trailer. Jim Gordon was shown investigating a high profile murder where a card was left on the victim for the Dark Knight. The contains the message that asks, "what does a liar do when he's dead?" On the opposite side of the card appeared a coded message.

The reason behind The Riddler sending messages to Batman is still unknown and it is something that the upcoming movie would explore. At the recent DC FanDome event, "The Batman" director Matt Reeves shared some interesting details about the popular Rogues Gallery. "I guess the one thing about the Rogues Gallery is that it actually, in a weird way, this is the origins of a lot of our Rogues Gallery characters... so that's all incredibly exciting," the director said.
