'Being The Ricardos': Nicole Kidman Reveals Her 'Obsession' While Recreating 'I Love Lucy' Scenes
Nicole Kidman opened up about her upcoming movie, "Being the Ricardos" and her obsession with recreating a perfect scene from the "I Love Lucy" sitcom.
Kidman noted that she studied the dancing movements to make them accurate as shown in season 5, in an episode titled "Lucy's Italian Movie."
The 54-year-old actress said during the Q&A held after the screening of the movie in Los Angeles over the weekend, "I studied them and learned them. It went into my body and my memory," People reported.
"It was my obsession to get it absolutely accurate," she added. "It was [writer/director Aaron Sorkin's] obsession to have this human being portrayed — what's behind the creation of Lucy Ricardo and who is the woman behind this character?" the actress said.
Moreover, Kidman noted that she had so much fun filming this biopic that she would love to continue filming it for a longer period of time.
"Being the Ricardos" is based on Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz's life. The biopic is directed by Aaron Sorkin and it also stars Nina Arianda, Alia Shawkat, Jake Lacy and Tony Hale.
Ball died in 1989 at the age of 77. One of her interviews in 1974 on "The Dick Cavett Show" resurfaced on the internet where she claimed she was afraid of being killed during a scripted fight in one of the most memorable scenes with Italian actress Teresa Tirelli.
"[Tirelli] was told that there would be a fight, and it was also explained to her that there were times when my legs had to come up in this huge vat of real grapes," Ball recalled, at that time. "I slipped and when I slipped, I hit her, accidentally. And she took offense. So, she hauled off and let me have it … it took all the wind out of me," she added.
She further explained how her co-star was "choking" her for real saying, "I am really beating her to get her off. I was drowning in these grapes. She was killing me."
Here’s the original scene:
"Being the Ricardos" is slated to release on Dec. 10 in theaters and Dec. 21 on Amazon Prime Video.
