Ben Affleck, Matt Damon Drifting Apart Amid Sobriety Issue? Truth About Rumor

Is Matt Damon distancing himself from Ben Affleck because of the latter’s sobriety problem? This is what a new tabloid report is claiming. The Hollywood actors have reportedly drifted apart amid the “Justice League” actor’s drinking problem.

According to celebrity tabloid magazine Star, Ben and Matt’s friendship is currently strained all because the two can no longer be “drinking buddies.” An alleged source disclosed to the outlet that since Affleck is doing his best to lead a sober life, Matt has decided to look for companionship elsewhere.

The alleged insider claimed that Damon has found the perfect drinking buddy in pal Chris Hemsworth and he allegedly never turns down a chance to party with the latter. The source did clarify that it’s not to the point that they are heavily intoxicated because the “Jason Bourne” actor is a responsible drinker.

The tabloid’s tipster said that Damon does not like hanging out with Affleck anymore because the latter’s personal struggle with alcohol has put a limit to the time they can spend together. In addition, the insider said that Damon is not happy that he can’t enjoy even a beer when he’s with Ben.

Gossip Cop has since called out the tabloid and debunked its baseless story. According to the fact-checking website, there are numerous reports from credible publications that can prove of Damon’s support for Affleck amid the latter’s sobriety problem.

For instance Entertainment Tonight disclosed a few months ago that Damon has been a “key supporter” in Affleck’s alcoholism recovery. People also reported that Damon has showed unwavering support to his best friend amid his struggles. The two actors have reportedly remained close despite the trying period.

It’s also worth noting that Affleck and Damon apparently own a production company together. Pearl Street Films has several projects in the the works, so it’s not possible for the two of them to not see each other regularly. Furthermore, the two are working on a movie with Damon as lead star and Affleck as director.

The news comes a day after it was revealed that Warner Bros. and DC have already started scouting for the next Caped Crusader following the departure of Jennifer Garner’s ex from playing the role, as per CNBC.

Matt Reeves is helming an upcoming Batman movie that’s set to premiere in 2021. In late January, Reeves revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that they were putting together a “battle plan” for the next Batman movie and that the casting process would begin shortly.
