Bette Midler Fires Back At Kim Kardashian's Twitter Diss; Says She 'Never Tried To Fake Friend' The Reality Star
Bette Midler is standing her ground after being bashed by Kim Kardashian on Twitter. The "Hocus Pocus" star found herself at the center of a social media controversy after mocking Kardashian's recent NSFW selfie. Now she's defending her comment, claiming it was just "a joke."
Midler, 70, resurfaced on Twitter on Tuesday after Kardashian launched a calculated attack on her, Chloë Grace Moretz and Piers Morgan, who all commented on the selfie. The Tony Award-winner assured followers that she "never" made an attempt at friendship with Kim, despite her lofty Twitter claims. Midler added that she was completely kidding, though it was clear the joke went over the reality TV star's head.
Early Tuesday morning Kardashian spoke her piece on Twitter about Midler's post, which was retweeted more than 100,000 times. She joked that she took so long to respond because she was busy cashing an "80 million video game check" and depositing $53 million — the exact amount husband Kanye West claimed to be in debt a few weeks ago— into the couple's joint account. Kim then tweeted directly at 70-year-old Midler, knocking her age. She asked Midler to send nude photos if she was even awake at the hour. Kim then called her "fake," suggesting the singer-actress once tried to send her a gift in the hopes of getting in her good graces.
The controversy began Monday after Kardashian's nude Instagram photo began circulating among fans. Midler, Morgan and Moretz commented on the "KUWTK" star's decision to strip down for social media. Midler joked that if Kim wanted to truly shock fans and show them something they hadn't seen before, she'd have to "swallow the camera." Moretz retweeted the joke, but claims she was not "sl-- shaming" Kardashian. Similarly, Morgan offered to buy ardashian an outfit or two and suggested that she wouldn't have gotten so famous without getting naked so frequently.
