'The Big Bang Theory' Season 8 Spoilers: Season Finale Ends In Huge Cliffhanger For Sheldon And Amy; Episode 22 Recap
The Season 8 finale of “The Big Bang Theory” aired Thursday, putting the CBS comedy’s two big relationships to the test. Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) were struggling with Sheldon’s reluctance to take things to the next level, while Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) were still dawdling in picking a wedding date. How would their issues be resolved in episode 22, “The Commitment Determination?”
The trouble for Sheldon and Amy began when Sheldon brought up “The Flash” television show in the middle of a hot make out session on the couple’s five-year anniversary. Amy thought it was ironic that Sheldon was having such commitment issues about whether or not to watch the show instead of being more concerned about their relationship progressing – the couple had still not slept with each other even after five years.
Later, Sheldon went to Leonard and Penny for help, but they agreed that Sheldon was taking things a bit slow. Sheldon, though, pointed out the Leonard and Penny were being equally non-committal having still not set a date for their wedding. The accusation rattled the couple. In fact, they decided to drive down to Las Vegas that night to tie the knot.
However, Leonard made a confession on the road on the way down that he had kissed someone else a few years before on a research trip. He wanted to go into marriage with a clean slate and no secrets, but Penny was worried that he was trying to sabotage their impromptu wedding.
Meanwhile, back at the apartment, Sheldon Skyped Amy in the hopes of reconciling with his longtime girlfriend. Unfortunately, he was shocked when Amy asked to have some space to figure things out before hanging up. The breakup devastated Sheldon, who pulled out a ring, revealing he had planned to propose! What a cliffhanger!
