Billie Eilish Wants Fans To Stop Eating Turkey On Thanksgiving: 'They Are Gentle Creatures'
Billie Eilish has discouraged her fans from eating turkey on Thanksgiving, saying they are the "most gentle creatures in the world." She also shared a photo of herself holding a live turkey in her arms.
The 19-year-old shared a photo of herself on Instagram Stories on Thursday and wrote, "Turkeys are some of the most gentle creatures in the world and 46 million of them are killed every Thanksgiving."
However, she acknowledged that it is difficult to change a tradition. "I know it's hard to change traditions but just keep it in mind," she added.
A Twitter user shared the photo of Eilish holding a turkey close to her as she looks at it with care. She wore a black t-shirt and cap.
But not everyone was on the same page with Eilish.
"[Turkeys] They literally were chasing me minding my own business on my walk so miss green roots can sit down," one person wrote, while another user commented, "Know what? Anyways wanna turkey sandwich?"
"I've never tasted turkey and don't plan on it. They cute but… they look scary and nasty as hell before and after being cooked," a user said.
Eilish has been following veganism for the last seven years.
Speaking about consuming meat and dairy products, she told British Vogue in May, "Once you know that kind of thing and you see it, it’s really hard to go back."
However, the singer explained that she doesn't aim to tell everyone else what to do but she just "can't go on in my life knowing what's going on in the animal world and, like, not doing anything about it."
Moreover, the singer also launched her own vegan sneakers in collaboration with Nike in September.
Eilish was last featured in a music video, "Lost Cause," which was dropped in June. She also appeared on the podcast "Just Headlines" in October.
