‘The Blacklist’ Season 4 Spoilers: 4 Things We Learned From New Trailers, Episode Synopses And Megan Boone’s Teaser
“The Blacklist” Season 4 premiere is right around the corner, and we’re definitely eager to see what’s in store next for Red (James Spader) and Liz Keen (Megan Boone) after last season’s cliffhangers and big revelations.
While waiting for the fourth season of the NBC series, check out some of the things we learned from the new trailers, the synopses for episodes 1 and 2, as well as Megan Boone’s recent interview.
Liz And Red Reunion
According to “The Blacklist” Season 4, episode 1 synopsis, Red will be tracking down Liz’s whereabouts when the season opens. In the Season 3 finale, Liz had nearly succeeded in escaping to Cuba with her partner Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) and their daughter Agnes after faking her death to trick Red and the Task Force. However, Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) managed to find and abduct her after trailing Tom.
"After Liz is abducted by a man claiming to be her father, Red sets out to find her at any cost. Meanwhile, the Task Force grapples with the shocking news that Liz is still alive,” reads the synopsis for “Esteban” (via CarterMatt).
A sneak peek for “The Blacklist” Season 4 released by Entertainment Weekly also showed Red finding Kirk’s hideout and rescuing Liz, hinting that a reunion could happen within the first few episodes.
Tom Will Be Back
The official synopsis for “The Blacklist” Season 4, episode 2, titled “Mato,” revealed that Red and Tom will team up to find out where Kirk is holding Liz captive. With the help of the Task Force, Red and Tom will hunt down a person who can give them information about Kirk and his plans.
"Red enlists Tom and the Task Force to help track a notorious bounty hunter who may know Alexander Kirk's next move. Meanwhile, Liz struggles to decide if Kirk is trustworthy,” reads the official synopsis for “Mato,” which airs Sept. 29, via Enstarz.
Red’s Real Connection To Liz
“The Blacklist” Season 4 may finally unveil who Red really is to Liz (Megan Boone), and the key to this revelation could be his longtime nemesis, Kirk. The latter told Liz in the Season 3 finale that he is her real father, Constantine Rosov, but this will only be the first of many revelations to come.
When asked by if her character’s connection to Red will finally be unveiled, Boone told Entertainment Weekly that it’s definitely a possibility. "What it's starting to look like is we are really delving into Liz's past and exposing a lot of things that have been withheld throughout the series. So I can't say confidently, but I think so,” she said.
One of the mysteries Season 4 will perhaps also shed light on is what really happened during the night of the fire that separated Liz from her father. In a trailer for “The Blacklist” Season 4, Liz questioned Red about the fire, asking him what happened and if he had been there that night. Red admitted that he’d been in the house during the fire and had the scars to prove it.
The Truth About Liz’s Parentage
Though series creator Jon Bokenkamp previously said Kirk was telling the truth about being Liz’s father, there are still some speculations that there might be another twist coming in Season 4 about Liz’s parentage. Over the past three seasons, fans have been speculating that Red could be her real dad, and this was only fueled when an episode in Season 3 seemed to hint that there's more to Red and Liz’s mother's history than we initially thought.
Based on another trailer for “The Blacklist” Season 4, Red might not be forthcoming with this information and won't easily tell Liz the truth. But there’s still one person who knows all the answers to Liz’s questions, and that’s her father.
In a recent interview with TV Line, Bokenkamp said, "[Kirk] is a character who has a firm grasp on truths about Elizabeth Keen's past, unlike any character we've had before. Over time, he will be unpacking truths that are undeniable about who Elizabeth Keen is, where she comes from, what her connection is to Kirk, to her mother and, ultimately, to Reddington."
“The Blacklist” Season 4 is set to premiere on NBC on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 10 p.m. ET.
