Blackpink To Get New Music In 2020 Amid Protest
The band Blackpink has been getting some backlash from their fans, known as Blink, after their label, YG Entertainment, was suspected to have abandoned plans for new music from the artists. In response, the South Korean brand has revealed that the girl band will be releasing new music in 2020.
The agency released a statement on Twitter on Monday regarding plans for the girl group. “...they are working hard at the recording studio for their new album. We appreciate Blinks’s interest and would like to ask you to continue supporting the girls working on their album release scheduled for early part of 2020,” reads the post.
Following the release of their hit single “Kill This Love” in April, Blackpink went on a world tour and performed Coachella, notes Billboard. However, the girl group went quiet during the latter half of 2019, failing to appear at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, for which they were nominated for Best Female Group and Best Dance Performance- Female. Performer Jennie was also nominated for Best Female Artist and Best Dance Performance- Solo.
This led to the Blinks putting out a campaign demanding that the singers get their new album released along with solo projects for members Rose, Lisa, and Jisoo. After not hearing from the group, Blink posted an ad on a truck demanding new content for fans. The vehicle’s appearance spread across social media and the fan protest went worldwide.
This move comes after YG founder Yang Hyun-suk stepped down from his position this summer following a string of police investigations into his alleged illegal activities.
The four-member girl group formed in 2016 and has released 13 original songs to date. The group has also collaborated with Dua Lipa.
