  • So far, Blackpink is the second South Korean girl group to earn a place on the chart

Blackpink has officially bagged the record for highest charting song for a K-pop girl group on Billboard’s Hot 100.

Following the much-touted release of Lady Gaga’s “Chromatica” album, the South Korean girl group has found their way to the top of the music charts yet again when “Sour Candy,” a track collaboration with Gaga, was immediately selected as a fan favorite even before it was dropped, Forbes reported.

Blackpink’s latest single reportedly soared to new heights for the group on the Billboard Hot 100 chart right after it surpassed its full tracking frame. This, in turn, means that the four-membered act has made history once again.

Debuting at no. 33 on this week’s Hot 100 chart, “Sour Candy” has officially surpassed all other singles featuring any female K-pop band from South Korea.

According to Forbes, the Blackpink-Gaga duet track is also the highest charting song in U.S. history that features by a South Korean girl group, beating its previous record holder which, coincidentally, was also held by Blackpink.

“Kill This Love” was the K-pop group’s 2019 smash hit but only peaked at no. 41 at the time, failing to reach the top 40 on the music chart. Aside from this, Blackpink’s 2018 single, “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du,” was also a commercial success, reaching no. 55 on the chart and amassing over 1.1 billion views on YouTube.

The tracks have indeed cemented Blackpink’s already stellar music career. And in recent memory, their Dua Lipa collaboration, “Kiss and Make Up,” also gained success upon release in late 2018.

Blackpink’s “Sour Candy” is officially the group’s fourth track to have placed a spot on the Hot 100. The four-membered act is also the second K-pop girl group to earn a place in the chart records following K-pop legends Wonder Girls — the first girl group from South Korea to ever rank on the U.S. charts. The Wonder Girls' massive hit "Nobody" reached the 76th spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2009.

As for Blackpink’s much-awaited 2020 comeback, the K-pop group has confirmed the launch of a new single this summer, and their first full-length album is slated for release later this year.

Blackpink's agency, YG Entertainment, took to Twitter earlier this month to promote the group’s new single, which is slated for release on June 26. Their album, on the other hand, is also officially set for a September launch.
