When Blake Shelton proposed to Gwen Stefani, he made sure that he also got the approval of the most important people in the No Doubt lead singer’s life.

The country singer asked Stefani’s three children, whom she shares with her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, for permission before popping the question. An unnamed source told People that Shelton first told Kingston, Zuma and Apollo about the proposal.

“Blake told her boys that he wanted to propose and asked their permission. Her family very much approves of him. He's an amazing partner and a great extra dad to the boys. Gwen is ecstatic. The proposal was a surprise," the source said.

Shelton got down on one knee and Stefani said “yes” days before they made the official announcement on social media. Both singers were so excited when they finally shared the good news via Instagram on Oct. 27.

“Hey @gwenstefani thanks for saving my 2020… And the rest of my life.. I love you. I heard a YES!” Shelton captioned a photo of him and Stefani showing her engagement ring.

Another source claimed that Shelton had gone the traditional route and first asked permission from Stefani’s father before proposing, which reportedly meant a lot to the 51-year-old singer. He also had a custom-designed engagement ring, which reportedly cost upward of $500,000.

“Gwen’s massive new bling appears to be a round or oval cut, set in a solitaire or simple pavé platinum setting. With the center stone nearly reaching Gwen’s middle knuckle, I estimate the total weight of her engagement ring to be approximately 8-10 carats at a value of $700,000-$800,000, depending on the color and clarity of the diamonds,” Katie Zimmerman of Blue Nile estimated the bling.

The proposal happened in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, Shelton’s hometown. This is also where the couple quarantined before they moved to their Los Angeles house, which Stefani and Shelton bought last year.

The couple have been dating for five years after crossing paths in “The Voice” as coaches. Both have been previously married – Shelton with Rossdale and Shelton with Miranda Lambert.
