Bob Arum Reveals Only Opponent Who Wouldn't Harm Manny Pacquiao's Health
Top Rank CEO Bob Arum just revealed the boxing world champion Manny Pacquiao could fight next without harming his health.
Filipino legend Pacquiao is indeed an ageing fighter in the sport of boxing. But despite the fact that he is already in his 40s, Pacquiao has proven that he can still compete with younger fighters.
Just a few weeks ago, the boxing icon put on a striking show when he outboxed former welterweight champ Keith Thurman. However, it seems like no matter how impressive Pacquiao’s performance was during his last fight, boxing experts can’t help but see some risks for the veteran fighter’s health.
One of the people who sensed danger in Pacquiao’s career is his former promoter, Arum. Arum has been quite vocal about his concerns over the legend’s health.
In a recent interview back in Ireland, Arum once again shared his thoughts about the lengthy boxing career of Pacquiao. According to Arum, the eight-division title holder can still perform but he needs to “watch himself,” especially if he will decide to fight again, Tempo reported.
“He performed very well. He should watch himself because I have had experiences with other, older fighters,” Arum warned.
As a tenured boxing promoter, Arum could be stating facts about Pacquiao. However, the 87-year-old businessman mentioned one name who he believes would not cause Pacquiao some serious damages.
“Unless he gets to fight Floyd Mayweather in a rematch,” Arum pointed out.
After revealing that a rematch with Mayweather is the only ideal fight for Pacquiao at this point, Arum decided to not push the issue and left it all to the boxing legend.
“But it’s his call,” Arum said.
Prior to this, Arum already expressed his concern with the ageing Pacquiao. The 87-year-old promoter said that he fears that Pacquiao could incur brain damage if he still continue to fight.
"When they get older the cranium is thinner, and when you get hit it affects, that would be the worst thing in the world if Manny Pacquiao suffered brain damage at this point,” Arum said.
The Filipino legend has already stated in the past that he is willing to fight Mayweather once again. However, the American champ has not shown any signs of mutual interest in the said rematch.
Even Pacquiao’s long-time trainer Freddie Roach seemed to notice that Mayweather doesn’t want to fight Pacquiao anymore. Shortly after the Pacquiao vs. Thurman fight, Roach blasted Mayweather and said that the undefeated champ is “scared” of Pacquiao.
According to Roach, he is positive that upon witnessing how Pacquiao battered Thurman, Mayweather realized that the eight-division title holder can defeat him.
