Brie Larson Wants Captain Marvel To Fight An Avenger
Brie Larson will step into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2019 when she plays Captain Marvel, and the “Glass Castle” actress has some thoughts about who she wants to see the superhero fight. It turns out, she doesn’t have a villain in mind.
“I don’t know, I mean I do kind of have fantasies of battling the Hulk. It’s just visually so good,” the actress admitted to USA Today.
That isn’t who Larson will be battling in “Captain Marvel,” though. Last month, Marvel Studios finally revealed some details about the action flick, their first with a woman as the solo headliner. “Captain Marvel” will take place in the ‘90s, before Bruce Banner became the Hulk and also before Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) wore an eye patch. The film will follow Carol Danvers as she fights the Skrulls.

Fans of Marvel comics know that the Skrulls are alien shapeshifters who have popped up repeatedly in the source material. They often engaged in wars with not only Earth but also the Kree. It isn’t clear what will cause the conflict with Captain Marvel, but both audiences and Marvel execs are excited.
“Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn is revealed that he nearly put the Skrulls in “Guardians,” but he ultimately decided introducing the shapeshifters would overcomplicate the film. Still, he is happy “Captain Marvel” will finally bring the aliens into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“No, [Marvel] never said no. [They] said yes!” Gunn revealed to CinemaBlend. “It’s something that we’ve talked a lot about dealing with. I almost put a Skrull in the Ravagers. But I’m really excited they’re coming about, and I think it’s going to be fun to see where they go from there, and what happens with the Skrulls in the future of the Marvel Universe. I’m a huge fan of the Skrulls.”

Larson is surely doing her research before filming the movie, which will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. She has posted photos of herself reading the comics, but she isn’t so confident that she is an expert on Captain Marvel or the Skrulls yet.
“I feel like I know quite a bit, but then I hear other people talk about it and I feel like I don’t know as much as everybody else,” she told USA Today when asked how deep she was into the mythology.
“There’s a lot because even if you just love one character what’s cool about it, especially when you’re reading the comics books, is it takes you on all these tangents,” the Oscar winner added. “So it takes you into other stories, and then that leads you to other things, and then you realize that the world is very big.”
Still, she knows more than the average Marvel moviegoer. After all, she must know if the rumors about Captain Marvel appearing in “Avengers: Infinity War” are true. However, she couldn’t reveal any insider info. “I can’t say!” she laughed when asked if Carol would make a cameo.
“Captain Marvel,” which is being written by Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve, will hit theaters March 8, 2019.
