Britney Spears To Appear In 'Jane The Virgin' Season 2, Joins Cast As Rogelio's Enemy
Britney Spears is temporarily putting down the microphone and giving acting another shot. The "Pretty Girls" singer has had several guest starring roles on shows like "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and "How I Met Your Mother," but we think her most recent role is going to be her biggest yet.
According to TV Line, Spears has agreed to appear in an episode of "Jane the Virgin" Season 2. Executive producer Jennie Synder Urman said in a statement that the pop star eagerly accepted an invitation to appear in an episode as she is apparently a big fan of the CW series. She revealed that Spears will play Rogelio's (Jaime Camil) enemy, but declined to include too many details about why it is the two don't see eye-to-eye. According to the statement, during the episode fans will get to hear a lot of Britney's character's perspective on their feud, which Urman says is "quite different" than Rogelio's.
"We are so thrilled that Rogelio's 'nemesis' -- Britney Spears -- has agreed to appear on 'Jane the Virgin' in episode 205," Urman said. "Personally, after hearing about their long standing feud (from Rogelio's point of view), we are eager to hear Ms. Spears' side of the story, which we assume is quite different. #TeamBritney."
Spears confirmed the exciting news on Twitter Tuesday. She surprised fans by tweeting that she would see them "at the Marbello Hotel," a location which plays an important role in the show. In her message Spears called the opportunity to star on the show a "#DreamComeTrue," adding that the series is one of her favorites.
The second season of "Jane the Virgin" was originally scheduled to premiere Monday, Oct. 19, at 9 p.m. EDT on the CW. According to Variety, however, the network has since decided to bump the show's premiere date up a week. The publication reports that the decision was an effort by the CW to clear the broadcast for a major NFL match-up between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles.
The show will return to TV Monday, Oct. 12, at 9 p.m. EDT on the CW.
