Brothers Murder Their Sister For Having Extramarital Affair; Lover Also Killed

A 25-year-old woman and her lover, both married, were allegedly murdered by her brothers in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday.

The Uttar Pradesh police arrested two persons accused of killing their sister and her lover, who both hailed from Asara village – Mursleen, 32, the main accused, and his cousin, Shehnawaz, have been apprehended by the Baghpat Police.

Mursleen allegedly murdered his sister, Mahjabi, and Mohd Arif, 29, because the couple continued their relationship even after his sister married another person a few years ago in Shamli village, The Times of India reported.

According to the police, Mursleen admitted that he and his four brothers had killed his sister. Police are still searching for the remaining suspects, as confirmed by Neeraj Kumar Jadaun, Baghpat district Superintendent of Police (SP).

Mahjabi, a mother of three, and her lover Arif ran away from the village on Oct. 20. Their family members and the police had been searching for them since then.

According to SP Neeraj, the accused went to Meerut and reportedly abducted Mahjabi and Arif. "[They] took them to the village Gangeru of Kandhla police station area, where they killed Arif at Muzammil's house and hid the dead body in the nearby forest." The suspects allegedly brought Mahjabi to the Asara village and killed her in the forest, the Indian online newspaper The Print reported.

"Mursleen got to know that the couple was in Meerut. He, along with his brothers - Muzammil, Arman, Muntazir, and his cousin Shehnawaz, then reached Meerut and held the two in captivity," the police said. Mahjabi and Arif were both murdered in their village.

Arif's body was found in Lumb village, a few kilometers away from where Mahjabi's body was discovered. "Both their bodies were recovered from the forests near Asara and Lumb villages in a late-night combing operation and sent for post-mortem," the SP said. Both of their families have been informed about the incident. Two brothers have been arrested while police searches are being conducted to arrest the remaining suspects.

The case has been registered under section 302 for murder, 201 for causing the disappearance of evidence of the offense, 34 for crime by several persons with common intention and section 120B for a criminal conspiracy of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
