  • "Dynamite" becomes BTS's first song to claim the top spot on the Billboard Top 100 chart
  • The song secured 33.9 million U.S. streams and sold 300,000 units during its first week
  • Fans flooded social media platforms with congratulatory messages

South Korean boy band BTS created history by becoming the first K-pop group to claim the numero uno position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with their dazzling new track “Dynamite.”

The song, which was released on Aug. 21, had 33.9 million U.S. streams and sold 300,000 units in its first week, Billboard reported citing Nielsen Music/MRC’s data. The song also pulled in almost 11.6 million radio airplay audience impressions until Aug. 30.

Apart from reaching the top spot, “Dynamite” has also become the band’s fourth song to reach the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The group first appeared on the chart with the song “DNA” in 2017 and entered the coveted list again with the track “Fake Love” in 2018.

“Boy With Luv” and “On” are the other two songs that reached the top 10 rankings but could never make it to the top of the table. “On,” which won numerous awards at the recently held MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), was the band’s first song to breach the top 5 of the Billboard charts in March 2020.

BTS is also the first all-South Korean group to lead the charts. Meanwhile, PSY still holds the record for the only South Korean solo artist to reach number two at the Hot 100 chart with his hit song “Gangnam Style” back in 2012.

Fans went berserk as soon as the news went viral on social media. Interestingly, the group achieved this monumental feat on member Jungkook’s birthday. BTS fans, collectively called Army, flooded various social media platforms with congratulatory messages and some even said that they had tears in their eyes when they heard the news.

“The most precious birthday gift he ever received! #JungkookDay #BTS1onHot100,” one user commented.

“I think I’m gonna print this and stuck it to the ceiling on top of my bed so that it’s the first and last thing I see every day,” another social media user commented.

“I have no words just tears Congrats @BTS_twt. #BTS1onHot100,” @pjmsmiley wrote.

Meanwhile, one of the fans wrote that “Dynamite” is not just a song but a “cultural reset.”

“Dynamite isn’t just a song, it’s a cultural reset, it’s the oxygen u breathe, it’s a lifestyle, a reason to breathe, an escape from this cruel world filled w/ thieves. It’s art. A hug from a loved one. CONGRATS Y’ALL,” @arkmoch_ark wrote on Twitter.

“Congratulations my boys @BTS_twt. You deserve it. I’m so proud of you all. I love you all,” another user commented.

The band — composed of V, Jungkook, Jimin, Suga, Jin, RM, and J-Hope — became a worldwide sensation in 2015 when their album “The Most Beautiful Moment In Life, Part 1” received positive reviews from the critics as well as the audiences. The band has released 7 studio albums so far, four in Korean and three in Japanese.
