KEY POINTS

  • V became the fastest individual to reach both one and 10 million followers on Instagram
  • He reached one million Instagram followers in 43 minutes
  • BTS members launched their own Instagram pages on Dec. 6

He may be a novice on Instagram, but BTS' V has already set two new Guinness records for getting millions of followers on the image-sharing platform in the quickest amount of time.

Kim Tae-Hyung, also known as V, has become the most followed BTS member on Instagram, just a little over a week after each of them launched their own Instagram accounts on Dec. 6.

Among the seven members of the popular boyband, V led the game in terms of follower count and reached one million followers in just 43 minutes.

But it seems more loyal fans, known as ARMY, want to catch up with the singer/dancer. In just four hours and 52 minutes, V amassed over 10 million followers on Instagram, effectively setting two new Guinness records.

V now has 25.7 million followers while the rest of the group – RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin and Jungkook – have over 22 million followers each on the popular social media platform.

The record for the fastest time to reach one million followers usually changes when a new celebrity joins the platform, according to Guinness World Records.

The title was previously held by another Korean boyband member, Taeil Moon of NCT. The other previous title holders are "Harry Potter" star Rupert Grint and "Friends" actress Jennifer Aniston.

While this is the first solo Guinness Record made by V, BTS broke five world records across YouTube and Spotify following the release of "Butter" in May.

The records were most viewed video on YouTube in 24 hours, most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a K-pop group, most streamed track on Spotify in the first 24 hours with 11 million streams, most streamed act on Spotify and most viewers for the premiere of a video on YouTube with 3.9 million concurrent viewers for its premiere on May 21.

Prior to the release of "Butter," BTS also became Spotify's most-streamed account, with their singles "Dynamite" and "Boy With Luv" becoming the most-streamed tracks.

The "Permission To Dance" singers earlier landed a spot in the Guinness World Records 2022 Hall of Fame after breaking so many records this year.

"Despite their young age, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook have left a mark in the present cultural landscape, breaking free from the limitations of their home market and of a language, South Korean, that remains widely unknown to the international public. At the same time - or perhaps aided by the echoes of the boyband's music, South Korea is seeing a steady rise in popularity," Guinness World Records earlier noted.
