BTS member V has revealed that he did not initially intend to audition for the group. During their guesting on “The Tonight Show,” V, also known as Kim Taehyung, said he only attended the BTS audition to support a friend.
One segment of the show had the global singing sensation clear up some fan rumors, including that of V attending the BTS audition to support a friend. “V, is it true that you never actually intended on auditioning for BTS, you just went to the audition to support your friend," asked Jimmy Fallon.
The “Butter” singer confirmed the rumor, saying, “True, yes,” in response to Kimmel’s question. When asked again what happened to his friend, V answered in Korean, saying that his friend failed his audition. “Only me!” he added, saying he was the only one who passed.
His response, which instantly made Fallon chuckle off his feet, spread like wildfire on Twitter, with fans appreciating the BTS member’s honesty. “WHEN ASKED ABT THE FRIEND TAE ACCOMPANIED WHEN AUDITIONING TAE STRAIGHT UP SAID ‘HE FAILED’ I’M SCREAMING,” one fan tweeted.
Some fans also praised V for his natural humor, with another fan tweeting, “He’s effortlessly funny.”
Meanwhile, the group also talked about their experience working with Ed Sheeran, who co-wrote “Permission to Dance.” Asked if they remember the first time they met the singer, RM revealed they have not met him yet. “We can’t believe we haven’t met him yet, and this is our second project with him, but we never met him yet,” he told Fallon.
The host also asked them how they felt receiving their first Grammy nomination ahead of the 2021 ceremony. “Sorry for the cliché, but it’s really an honor,” answered RM. “I was so happy—so crazy and so thankful for all the fans all over the world,” he added.
BTS is scheduled to appear on “The Tonight Show” for two consecutive nights this month. After presenting last night the U.S. television debut of “Permission to Dance,” the group will appear again on tonight’s episode to perform “Butter,” which has been on the No. 1 spot of Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart for the past six weeks.
