Cameron Diaz Talks About Quitting Acting To Make Her ‘Life Manageable’
Cameron Diaz shocked one and all in Hollywood when she announced her retirement from acting at the peak of her career back in 2018. Since then, the actress hasn’t commented much on the issue, until now. Recently she appeared on Kevin Hart’s Peacock talk show, “Hart to Heart” where she opened up about her reasons to quit acting.
During the show, Kevin Hart asked Diaz "Why did Cameron Diaz step away from the world of acting? What is it that motivated you to stop?"
Diaz answered by saying "When you do something at a really high level for a long period of time," other parts of you have "to sort of be handed off to other people."
The “Knight & Day” actress still loves acting, but it had gotten to a point where she couldn’t manage her own life anymore. Eventually, around the age of 40, she started to realize that there were "so many parts of my life... that I wasn't touching and that I wasn't managing. It's fun to do, I love it. I love acting,"
Later during the chat show, she said she wanted to incorporate more simplicity into her everyday life. "For me, I just really wanted to make my life manageable by me, my routine in a day is literally what I can manage to do by myself."
She also added that after the change “I feel whole.”
The “Charlie’s Angels” star realized after quitting acting she had enough time for “all those things I didn't have time for before."
"Now I'm Here and this is the most fulfilling thing that I've ever done in my life, [To] have a family and be married and have our little nucleus of a family. It's just completely the best thing."
"I don't have what it takes to give making a movie what it needs to be made. All of my energy is here," she concluded.
Though Diaz hasn’t been acting for seven years now, the actress has kept herself busy in other ways. She wrote books -- "The Body Book: The Law of Hunger, the Science of Strength, and Other Ways to Love Your Amazing Body" in 2013 and "The Longevity Book: The Science of Aging, the Biology of Strength, and the Privilege of Time" in June 2016.
On the business front, she has invested in biotech startups such as Seed Health and Modern Acupuncture. Last year, she had even launched her own organic wine brand called Avaline with partner Katherine Power.
