Camilla Parker Bowles’ Son Tom Reveals Shocking, ‘Unusual’ Family Christmas Lunch Tradition
Camilla Parker Bowles’ son Tom shared an unusual family Christmas tradition.
Tom is a popular food writer. He described his family as "very normal." However, when it comes to Christmas lunch, unlike most families they don’t share “Victorian arriviste turkey.” Instead, they opt for a more traditional choice of meat - beef. He added that he never cooked turkey for his family on the special occasion.
“I usually do the cooking. Sadly, despite writing a book about traditional Christmas, we don’t have turkey, we have beef,” Tom told Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on ITV’s “Good Morning Britain.”
Tom added that turkeys were popularized by the Victorians. However, he prefers beef. “I’m not a huge turkey fan,” Camilla’s son added.
Tom explained that the Victorian arriviste turkey came in the 19th century. Prior to that, they had beef and boar’s head. He added that Christmas used to be a “big raucous pagan celebration.” However, when Christianity arrived, the season became a family thing. When it comes to Christmas influencers, he admitted that Charles Dickens and Coca-Cola contributed to how people celebrate the holidays.
The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Charles have no children together. However, Camilla has two kids from her first marriage with Andrew Parker Bowles, Tom and Laura Lopes.
Tom admitted earlier that when he was younger he used to be naughty and he partied a bit hard. At one point, he reportedly got involved in drugs, which made the Prince of Wales mad as he was the patron of the drugs charity Phoenix House.
However, Tom reassured Prince Charles in front of Prince William and Prince Harry that he had never taken drugs. Tom is good friends with the two princes.
Laura is married to former Calvin Klein model Harry Lopes. She has three children. Just like Tom, she has a good relationship with the royals. In fact, Prince William, Kate Middleton and Prince Harry attended her wedding in 2006.
In related news, Camilla hosted a lavish Christmas party in Clarence House earlier this month. She decorated the Christmas tree with the children supported by Helen & Douglas House and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. They also enjoyed a festive lunch together.
