Mexican boxing superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez suddenly received a special gift ahead of his light heavyweight bout against Sergey Kovalev.

While everybody in boxing assumes that Canelo doesn’t have time for anything else aside from training really hard for his attempt to make history, the Mexican star proves them all wrong. Ahead of the highly anticipated match against Kovalev, Canelo received a pet dog from Chico Lopez.

Lopez, who is also a Mexican like Canelo, specializes with dogs and suddenly felt like the boxing star deserves to have a dog. Ellie Seckbach of EsNews uploaded the actual footage where Canelo can be seen carrying the cute dog already as Lopez was doing a short speech.

According to Lopez, the dog and Canelo is a perfect match and he is very pleased to have Canelo to personally receive his little gift.

“This is the perfect combination, the perfect man, the perfect dog. I’m very happy to be here with you Canelo,” Lopez said after handing the dog to Canelo.

Back in boxing, Canelo’s most notable rival Gennady Golovkin is just hours away from entering the boxing ring with Sergiy Dereveyanchenko. And as the fight approaches, Golovkin wasn’t able to keep Canelo’s name out of his mouth during media scrums.

In a recent interview with USA Today, Golovkin was once again asked about the status of a third fight with Canelo. As expected, “GGG” pointed his finger at Canelo and said that the Mexican is the one who keeps on “running” from him.

“Canelo is the one who keeps running away, who keeps running away from the fight,” Golovkin exclaimed.

However, Golovkin admitted that despite all the conflicts, he feels that the third fight with Canelo will happen eventually.

“I think it will eventually happen. I see this fight happening. I’m just not sure when it will happen,” Golovkin noted.

Prior to Golovkin’s claim, Canelo already addressed the said third fight and stated that he is “done” with Golovkin. Shortly after his promoter Oscar De La Hoya announced that Alvarez vs. Golovkin 3 is happening next year, Canelo shut it down and explained that De La Hoya just made it up.

“Oscar says many things that make no sense. Gennady Golovkin does not represent anything for me right now. He comes from practically fighting a nobody. He doesn’t represent a challenge that I haven’t had already in our two fights … For me, yes, we are finished,” Canelo pointed out.
