Captain America Actor Chris Evans Was ‘Surprisingly Emotional’ When ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Wrapped
Chris Evans was surprised by how he felt on the final day of filming “Avengers: Endgame.” The movie is set to be a culmination of all 22 movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the Captain America actor was honest about how he was feeling when he finished filming.
The Hollywood Reporter asked Evans about what he remembered from his last day of the shoot. “Getting emotional on the last day of filming. It was surprisingly emotional,” Evans said.
That echoes a tweet he sent out when he wrapped his reshoots for “Avengers: Endgame” in the fall. “Officially wrapped on ‘Avengers 4.’ It was an emotional day to say the least,” he tweeted in October. “Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.”
That tweet felt like a goodbye to Captain America. Evans is rumored to be leaving the franchise, and many have speculated that he and other original Avengers may die in “Endgame.” The 37-year-old later insisted that he didn’t spoil anything.
“I should clarify that I know I did tweet something that made a lot of people think that it was in some way a spoiler,” Evans said at ACE Comic Con in Chicago (via ComicBook.com). “I should clarify that regardless of how ‘Avengers 4’ ends, I would have tweeted the exact same thing. That last day of filming was a very emotional day and it was the culmination of almost 10 years of filming and 22 movies, this unbelievable tapestry.”
He added, “You feel a lot more emotions than I think even I thought I’d feel. And I felt it was appropriate to share the gratitude. I know it had a ripple effect, but I am neither confirming or denying anything.”
Evans stirred up similar rumors last year after a New York Times interview made it seem like he’d hang up Cap’s shield. “You want to get off the train before they push you off,” he said.
Fans will have to wait for “Avengers: Endgame” to hit theaters on April 26 to see what happens to the star-spangled superhero.
