Carly Waddell Opens Up About Recent Health Scare: 'I Pep-Talked Myself Into Staying Alive'

Carly Waddell got candid about the health scare she experienced last week.

The ABC star shared the details of the event that led her to be transported to the hospital by ambulance in a video on Instagram. Waddell knew that her fans are waiting to hear an update from her, so she uploaded a video to address their concerns.

"Health update," she wrote. "Thanks for the prayers everyone. [Here’s] the update of my plane medical emergency on Monday. No one really has any answers but I know y’all have been wondering what went down, so here ya go. Love you!"

According to Waddell, she was still unsure what caused her medical emergency, but she went on sharing the pain she experienced ahead of her flight.

"I was waiting in line for the plane [and] started having some really bad intestinal cramps. And when I say really bad, they were what I would compare to contractions. They were unbelievably bad," she said.

Waddell said the cramps "kept hitting and kept hitting and I couldn't breathe." It was so intense that she "got super, super hot and super, super nauseous and I stopped being able to see and I stopped being able to hear."

When the plane was about to take off, "The Bachelor" alum stood up from her seat and ended up passing out. Fortunately, another passenger caught her before she hit the ground and soon after regained consciousness.

The fire department arrived and transported her out of the airport in a wheelchair since she was unsure if she could walk. She was asked if she wanted to be taken home. However, when they checked her vitals, they noticed that her blood pressure was "way too low" and it continued to decrease that they decided to rush her to the hospital.

"I could tell my body was giving out," Waddell continued. "And I had to talk myself...'This is not the way you go out.' I was laying there with my eyes closed and pep-talking myself into staying alive."

It's been nearly a week since she was hospitalized. However, the doctors have not given her a precise answer as to what exactly happened.

"They basically still don't know what was going on," she explained. "They said it was probably a virus or bacteria that just got me and got me really good. Ever since that day, I'm still having really bad intestinal cramps but they're not like they were. But they're not great. And randomly getting nauseous."

Waddell's ex Evan Bass was the first to announce her hospitalization, E! News reported. He shared a snap of her lying on a hospital bed. According to Bass, they stayed nine hours in the hospital before they left with her still "in pretty rough shape and may have to go back."

"I know y'all wanna know what's going on but it's her health and story to tell if she wants to share. (I did get her permission to share photo from earlier so you can relax Jan from Wisconsin.) In all the madness, she lost her phone and really needs to rest so it might be a bit," he added.

Waddell was thankful that Bass was there for her the whole time.

Bass and Waddell met in "Bachelor in Paradise" and got married in 2017. They split in December 2020. The former couple share two kids together — daughter Bella, 2, and son, Charlie, 1.
