Carrie Stevens is devastated over former Playmate Ashley Mattingly’s death.
On Monday (April 20), the American model took to Twitter to express her pain after her friend Mattingly, 33, passed away. Mattingly apparently committed suicide, prompting Stevens to encourage others who might be struggling to reach out for help.
“I am devastated. My friend #ashleymattingly took her own life. If you are struggling please reach out for help. She was only 33 RIP #playmatesister,” Stevens wrote in her post along with a photo of her, Hugh Hefner, and Mattingly.
According to TMZ, Mattingly suffered domestic violence from her ex-boyfriend Lane Garrison. She also struggled with substance abuse.
Mattingly’s sister Christy Deweese and twin brother Billy said that she took her own life on April 15 at her home in Austin. She also left a suicide note.
Mattingly was found unresponsive two days later after a friend called the Austin Police Department for a wellness check because she went “radio silent.”
According to Mattingly’s family, she had been living in Austin in the past two years and had been struggling with alochol abuse. She reportedly had demons while trying to get her life back on track.
Her family also said that the shelter-in-place didn’t help Ashley even if she recently adopted a 9-month-old golden retriever puppy to help her deal with her loneliness. The pup who has been named Miss Jean is reportedly with her family now.
Mattingly was Playboy’s Miss March in 2011. In 2016, she was charged with DUI. She was wasted at the time and allegedly plowed her golf cart into four parked cars.
Mattingly’s sister Christy paid tribute to her on Facebook. In her post, Christy described Mattingly as a “gorgeous angel.”
“Because I can’t find the words to say I will just leave this here. I love you and will miss you everyday. Fly high sister, I know you are the most gorgeous angel in heaven!” Christy wrote.
“Death brings pain that time can only heal, No words could ease what we truly feel but with god, her joy is eternally sealed and I’ll cherish her memories that death can’t even steal. ~ Author Unknown,” she added.
