KEY POINTS

  • It was reported last year that the film will focus on Casey Anthony's life
  • It was scheduled to release in 2020
  • Anthony, who was accused of killing her 2-year-old daughter, was acquitted in 2011

Casey Anthony's plans of releasing a "racy and explicit" movie about her life have been scrapped, People magazine reported Thursday citing a source close to the production. Last year reports surfaced that the Florida woman was working on the project with first-time filmmakers.

"It just hasn't really gotten off the ground," the source said. "And then the Coronavirus became a thing and stopped any momentum that the film had. It's effectively dead."

Anthony was acquitted of murder in 2011 in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. Previously, there were reports that the film she was planning was tentatively entitled "As I Was Told". It was said to contain her explanation of how Caylee died.

The 34-year-old, who lives in South Florida, has kept a low profile since her acquittal.

"She’s very calculated," a source close to Anthony told People magazine last year when the movie was announced. "She wants to tell her side of the story. That’s her big plan: to finally, 11 years later, tell what happened. And she’s going to tell everything."

In September last year, reports surfaced that Anthony – known as the most hated mother in America – was considering having a second child.

A source told People that Anthony was reassessing her life and trying to figure out what she should do next.

"She knows she’s getting older. She’s not the young girl who everyone saw on trial. She’s in her 30s, wondering what to do next, and hoping that she can find some meaning in her life," the source said last year.
