“Castle” alum Stana Katic will be starring in the upcoming series “Absentia.”

Last month, TV Line reported that the series scored a premiere showcase at the 57th Monte-Carlo Television Festival. The annual event was organized as a means to celebrate the best of television, as well as for shows to find distributors and producers who could release them in the United States. Some shows featured at the festival that went straight to TV were “Empire,” “Crossing Lines” and “Chicago Med.”

At the time, “Absentia” was also linked to Sony’s streaming service Crackle, but discussions are still ongoing. At present, entertainment writer Michael Ausiello confirmed that the creators and producers of the series haven’t stopped looking for a home for the show in the U.S.

“The pilot’s screening at this month’s Monte-Carlo Television Festival in essence marks the launch of the big push toward securing a Stateside home; we will of course keep you posted. And you are correct, rumors of Cracking giving a home to the series here are inaccurate, I have been assured,” Ausiello said.

In October, “Absentia” received a straight-to-series order for 10 episodes from Sony Pictures Television Networks’ AXN. Production for the FBI thriller will soon kick off, and a fall premiere is being eyed by the creators.

“Absentia” will follow the life of FBI Agent Emily Byrne (Katic), who is declared dead after vanishing while hunting down one of Boston’s most notorious killers. Six years later, she is found living in a cabin in the woods. It will be revealed that Emily does not have any memory of the past six years. When she finally returns home, the lead character will discover that her husband (Patrick Heusinger) has already remarried. To make things worse, Emily will be implicated in a series of murders.

Other cast members for “Absentia” include Angel Bonanni, Ralph Ineson, Richard Brake, Neil Jackson and Cara Theobold.

Monte-Carlo Television Festival CEO Laurent Puons released a statement in May expressing his excitement over the casting, as well as the series. “With its acclaimed cast and crew, alongside its intriguing premise, I’m certain ‘Absentia’ will prove a huge hit with international audiences,” he said.
