The latest seasons of Hallmark Channel’s “When Calls the Heart” and “Good Witch” are all wrapped up, but new episodes of the network’s other popular series, “Chesapeake Shores,” are just about to begin.

The show, which centers on Abby’s (Meghan Ory) return to her hometown and the love and family drama that comes along with that, is back with its Season 3 premiere on Sunday. In this first fresh episode, titled “An Open Book,” Trace (Jesse Metcalfe) comes back to Abby after being away on tour for a few months.

“When I left, it was hard,” Trace tells Abby, in the Season 3 trailer, when they finally see each other. Unfortunately, being back might be hard, as well. The two won’t have problem-free reunion, as his growing fame brings unwanted attention to Abby and her kids.

“We pick up with Trace and the Trace Riley Band having taken off," Metcalfe told ET, before explaining that he’s going to be learning the ropes of the industry from a new character named Donovan.”He’s a somewhat aged but still very relevant, very respected country music artist who takes Trace under his wing. In the story, he serves as what Trace’s future could look like if he stayed on the road. Trace is grappling with maintaining a relationship with Abby and being a family man as a stepfather to her daughters. Having this budding country music career that has all the trappings of success and fame are coming to bear on his life and on his relationship.”

Despite their rekindled relationship not being easy, Abby and Trace simply want to enjoy being with each other. Metcalfe shared that the two won’t be putting “too much expectation” on the romance, but because of how much they care about each other, things turn serious very fast anyway. If they lived in their own little bubble that might be good, but Trace’s fame will continue to put a damper on it all.

“With his newfound fame comes a reporter who’s doing a piece on Trace who’s really digging for a story and digging into his personal life, and they’re dealing with the paparazzi coming to Chesapeake Shores,” Metcalfe said. “He really wants to shield Abby and her daughters and protect them and keep his life in Chesapeake separate from his career, but it’s nearly impossible.”

Sunday’s new episode of “Chesapeake Shores” will also see Mick (Treat Williams) facing off against his son, Connor (Andrew Francis), in an environmental legal battle. Despite being each other’s competition, “Mick tries to warn his son about a major error before it is too late,” the episode synopsis reveals.

Meanwhile, Jess (Laci Mailey) finds Bree’s (Emilie Ullerup) manuscript and is surprised by what it’s about. The show picks up with Kevin (Brendan Penny) still training to be a paramedic while also growing closer to Sarah (Jessica Sipos). Though everyone has their own thing going on, they’ll all come together for the annual oyster festival, where Nell (Diane Ladd) recruits them to save a beloved landmark.

“Chesapeake Shores,” which is based on the novels of the same name by Sherryl Woods, airs its Season 3 premiere on Hallmark Channel on Sunday at 9 p.m. EDT.
