Days after Bennington’s death, a series of tweets posted her his wife Talinda Ann Bentley's Twitter account claimed that the artist was murdered. In the tweets, believed to be the work of a hacker, she admitted to cheating on Bennington with his bandmate Mike Shinoda and confessed that she didn’t love her husband but was only after his money.
Bentley later took to Twitter to post that her account had been hacked by a troll. This would not be the first time that she has been the victim of hacking.
The couple’s cell phones, emails and PayPal accounts were hacked in 2016. The family has faced a number of troubles from the Linkin Park’s more hardcore fans. In fact, there were times when they received weird messages from strangers. Some fans also played songs outside their house at 3 a.m., while others nailed lyrics to their front door.
On Monday, the remaining members of Linkin Park penned an open letter on Facebook to express their grief and gratitude to the late singer. “Dear Chester, Our hearts are broken. The shockwaves of grief and denial are still sweeping through our family as we come to grips with what has happened,” the group wrote. “You touched so many lives, maybe even more than you realized.”
His bandmates also stressed the void he left in the group. For them, Bennington had an infectious excitement. He was also “boisterous, funny, ambitious, creative, kind, generous voice in the room is missing.” The late singer had a big heart and was brave enough to wear it on his sleeve, which inspired them to be more human.
“Our love for making and performing music is inextinguishable. While we don’t know what path our future may take, we know that each of our lives was made better by you. Thank you for that gift. We love you, and miss you so much. Until we see you again,” Linkin Park concluded their letter.
Bennington is survived by his wife Talinda, their son Tyler and twin daughters Lilly and Lila, as well as three children from previous relationships.
