Following the May 31 recall by Perdue Foods, LLC for 31,703 pounds of Simply Smart Organics breaded chicken, because it was contaminated with foreign bone material, the company is again recalling its Simply Smart Organics chicken, this time over a wheat allergen that was not declared on the label.

The recall affects 495 pounds of frozen ready-to-eat chicken that was labeled as Simply Smart Organics Chicken Breast Tenders Gluten Free. The affected chicken tenders were misbranded and actually contain chicken nugget products.

The recalled chicken tenders were produced on Aug. 30 and packaged in 22-ounce resealable plastic bags. The chicken has a Best By date of 08-29-20 and a UPC code of 0-72745-80489-2 with timestamps of 00:30 to 1:00.

The affected chicken also has an establishment number of P-33944 on the package label. It was shipped to distributors and retail locations in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

Labels of the recalled chicken can be viewed here.

Consumers are urged to check their freezers for the recalled chicken products. The chicken should not be consumed. It should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Questions about the recall can be directed to Perdue Consumer Care at 1-866-866-3703.

Perdue discovered the issue after two consumer complaints. The company has not received any reports of adverse reaction due to the consumption of the chicken products. Individuals that are concerned about injury or illness from the recalled chicken should contact their healthcare provider.
