  • The "Guardians of the Galaxy" star recently said he's not religious

Chris Pratt has been bashed by netizens after claiming that he is "not a religious person" and he hasn't been to the controversial Hillsong Church.

Patt made the clarification in his interview for the July/August cover story of Men's Health magazine. "Religion has been oppressive as f--k for a long time," he said, adding that he doesn't identify as a religious person.

"I didn't know that I would kind of become the face of religion when really I'm not a religious person," he continued. It can be recalled that the actor called himself a "Bible guy" in a 2018 interview with New York Times.

Pratt slammed religious indoctrination in the latter part of his Men's Health interview, adding that he's never attended Hillsong Church. "I never went to Hillsong. I've never actually been to Hillsong. I don't know anyone from that church," explained.

The actor constantly attracted hate in the past for attending Zoe Church, which is modeled after Hillsong, with his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger.

In 2019, actor Elliot Page sent out a heated tweet, calling out Pratt for attending the "infamously anti-LGBTQ" church. In response, the "Guardians of the Galaxy" star took to his Instagram Stories to defend the organization, saying "nothing could be further from the truth," before adding, "I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone."

Pratt's latest statements about his faith have since ignited fresh hatred among social media users. One of them tweeted, "We need to start praying on his downfall. If you don't ask for nothing else, ask that Chris Pratt loses his stardom and ability to have a platform."

"Chris Pratt star is fading in Hollywood, so now he pretends he is not religious or a right-wing hack. The Rock is the new boy in town," another netizen noted as they reposted a tweet criticizing the actor.

"'I'm not a religious person,' said Chris Pratt, who then goes on to say he attends an evangelical church, the leader of which produced a film that says gay people are broken," another irate Twitter user said in response to a post about the actor's religious views.
