Ciara Admits To Crying After Leaving Rapper Future, Says She Didn't Want To Waste Her Life
Ciara opened up to actress Jada Pinkett Smith and her fellow "Red Table Talk" hosts, daughter Willow Smith and mother Adrienne Banfield Jones, during her interview on the Facebook series on Monday. During her sit down, the singer addressed her very public split from her ex-fiancé, rapper Future, and how she was able to overcome that and find true love with husband Russell Wilson.
In 2014, the now 33-year-old left Future just several months after the birth of their son, whom she named Future Jr. Ciara revealed to Pinkett Smith that she had to leave after seeing what real love was like from watching her parent's marriage growing up and realizing that that is not what she was receiving.

"The one thing I fear in life is really wasting my life," she said. "I really fear that 'cause you realize that time does not stop and it will be the worst scenario to stay in a situation that it’s just not healthy, it’s not going to get any better. I realized that I have to start making different decisions."
The singer explained, "...my dad’s love is what saved me in all my situations because it would get to a point where I was like, my dad wouldn’t do this to my mom. This can’t be love."
Ciara then unexpectedly became a single mother, and said, "I’d have moments when I would be in the shower, I’d be crying. I had a few different settings — crying in the bedroom, crying in the shower. Crying because I’m not in the happiest place, and it hurts what I’m going through."
But that did not last long, as Ciara and NFL star Wilson began dating when Future Jr. was 10-months-old.
When she and Wilson met, they made it a priority to focus on one another outside the bedroom. Until their marriage, they made headlines for their choice to remain abstinent, which they spoke about publicly. Ciara later told Cosmopolitan South Africa that the decision helped them build a solid foundation and work on their friendship, which is crucial in any relationship.
"It was different," Ciara told Pinkett Smith of meeting Wilson. "I never had that feeling in my life. It was just like, it was calm...It’s a different level of love."
