Cilian Murphy's Character In 'A Quiet Place II' Gets A Deeper Introduction
It was way back in January when "A Quiet Place II" was confirmed. Emily Blunt's character, as well as her kids, are making a comeback, along with some new characters. Cillian Murphy, who has to his credit another post-apocalyptic film — "28 Days Later" — joins the cast.
A featurette of the film rolled out featuring Murphy, Blunt and director John Krasinski talking about the roles of the new characters, CBR reported. Notably, most of the attention has been focused on Murphy's character, Emmett.
The original film featured alien monsters that are attracted to sound. Most of humanity has been killed off, and Emmett belongs to those who are trying to find their way to survive. The film's cast and its director confirmed that Emmett is a broken man, one who has lost a lot in the apocalypse, mirroring Blunt's character's own loss.
According to Games Radar, the role of Cillian Murphy's character is still unclear. Whether Emmett will be a friend to Blunt's Evelyn or another foe makes the upcoming sequel even more interesting.
Cillian Murphy talked about his role, saying that he agreed to play the role because he loved how original the film's premise was. He spoke of how blown away he was that he thought of writing an email to Krasinski; upon reading it, he decided not to go through with it because he thought it was "so cheesy." He then received a call from Krasinski only recently and that's when the role of Emmett was cast.
He managed to dodge from in-depth questions about Emmett, however, and only answered in general about what Emmett represented. To him, Emmett was a representation of where the film's world currently laid at; everybody has given up. Then, he gets to meet Regan, Evelyn's daughter and heroine of the last film. Regan allows Emmett to believe again, and that's all he had to say about the character.
For Krasinski, he never had any doubts about casting Cillian Murphy. The actor's talent, as he had shown in past films, made him a natural choice for the director.
"A Quiet Place II" also stars Djimon Honsou, Noah Jupe, and Millicent Simmonds. The film premiere's on Mar. 20.
