Country Music Legend Hank William Jr.’s Daughter Dies In Tennessee Car Crash: Police
Katherine Williams-Dunning, daughter of singer Hank Williams Jr. died in a single-vehicle crash in Tennessee Saturday (June 13), authorities said. She was 27-year-old at the time of her death.
Williams-Dunning was behind the wheel of a 2007 Chevy Tahoe with her husband Tyler Dunning, 29, as the only passenger. She was driving south on Highway 79 in Henry County towing a boat when the SUV crossed the dividing median and began rolling over. The car then crossed the northbound lanes and came to a stop on the shoulder of the road, WSMV-TV reported. Williams-Dunning died on the spot.
Dunning was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and his current condition was unspecified by the authorities. Preliminary case information provided by police listed Williams-Dunning as fatally injured.
The incident remains under investigation.
Williams-Dunning’s brother, Sam Williams, announced the crash in a Facebook post saying, “My sister and brother in law have been in a terrible accident. Please pray for them so hard! Katie Williams and Tyler Dunning.”
The couple was married on Oct. 15, 2015, and have two children aged 5 and 2, AL.com reported.
Williams-Dunning, lovingly called “Katie” by her family, was the singer’s daughter with his third wife, Mary Jane Thomas. She is the granddaughter of Hank Williams, an iconic country singer who died in 1953 aged 29.
Williams-Dunning ran her clothing brand Weston Jane, her Instagram bio states. The company was focused on "moms supporting moms and women supporting women" agenda.
Williams-Dunning’s elder sister Holly Audrey Williams, who is a singer, mourned her death on Instagram Sunday (June 14). "I have no words," Holly wrote. "On Friday morning I talked the family into taking this picture and had no idea it would be our last together with my precious little sister Katie."
She wrote Dunning was “awake and responding” but the extent of his injury wasn’t yet known to them. "ALL we need is prayers. My daddy. My little brother. Katie's husband," she added. "My niece and nephew. Her Mama. The Dunning family. All of us. So. Many. Prayers. Jesus is close. Thank you all."
